Description
Lustrous deep yellow-gold. Tiny marks present, but none of the egregious knocks usually associated with these large gold coins. Choice for the grade, and an ideal start to a serious double eagle set or a great coin for a gold type collection. The first date of the denomination offered for general circulation — a solitary double eagle dated 1849 was struck, and now resides permanently in the Smithsonian Institution.
