Description
Vlack 18-87C. Struck at Machin’s Mills in Orange Pond, NY, a hotbed for counterfeit English coppers after the Revolution. Uniformly microgranular red-brown surfaces show strong details despite the faulty planchet it was struck upon. During the War, Captain Machin built and installed the massive chain across the Hudson River near West Point to prevent the British from going further up the river.
