Closed 3. A true gem in our opinion. A nice mix of red and brown colors with a hint of purple that only add to this coin’s appeal. The CAC sticker confirms that this is not your average (as if there is such a thing!) 1873 Two Cent. Only 600 Closed 3’s were struck. Then 500 Open 3’s (which are considered restrikes) were struck later to make some collectors happy who thought the Closed 3 (that’s not really closed) looked too much like an 8. With none being struck for circulation in this type’s final year, the supply never quite meets the demand for 1873 two pieces!
