F. McCabe Sutler to the 3rd Maine. 5 Cents. Fine Laminated reverse. We could find no prior sales of a 5 cent note, but 50 cent and 25 cent notes brought $1000 to $1500 ten to twenty years ago. The Maine 3rd gave an excellent account of itself in the battle of Gettysburg. At the close of the second day’s fighting Gen. Sickles declared that, “The little 3rd Me. saved the army today.” Its loss at Gettysburg was 113 killed, wounded and missing.
