VG-8 sharpness on obverse, AG-3 on reverse. The undisputed key to the half cent discipline. Deep chocolate brown surfaces exhibit uniformly micro-granularity under low magnification. This date, along with its counterpart without pole, is the stopper for many collectors of half cents. Just 1,790 examples of the With Pole variety offered here were produced, according to the Red Book. We don’t recall the last time we offered a 1796 half cent of either variety, but we are proud to offer a wholly collectable example here. Have at it, bidders!
